Directors Habiba Nosheen and Hilke Schellmann previously collaborated on the Emmy award-winning investigative documentary Outlawed in Pakistan, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to prestigious film festivals such as IDFA, Full Frame, Thessaloniki Film Festival and AFI Docs. The film had its television broadcast on PBS FRONTLINE. The documentary also won an an Overseas Press Club Award and a Cinema for Peace Award.
Habiba is a three-time Emmy and Peabody award-winning filmmaker. Previously, she was the co-host of CBC News investigative documentary program, The Fifth Estate and an investigative correspondent for CBC News. Prior to the CBC, she was with CBS NEWS: 60 Minutes, where her work earned two Emmy awards. Her reporting has garnered numerous awards including three Emmys awards, the George Foster Peabody, the Gracie Award for Outstanding Correspondent, three Overseas Press Club awards, the New York Festival award, and the Third Coast Audio Festival award. Habiba was born in Pakistan and moved to Canada at the age of nine as a refugee. She teaches at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. Hilke Schellmann is an Emmy-award winning filmmaker and investigative reporter. Schellmann’s work has appeared in several publications including The New York Times, VICE, HBO, PBS, TIME, ARD, ZDF, WNYC, National Geographic, Glamour and The Atlantic. Previously, Schellmann spearheaded video coverage as a Multimedia Reporter for the New York section at The Wall Street Journal. She is also an assistant professor of journalism at NYU. Prior to joining NYU, Schellmann was the Director of Video Journalism and an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
